Is the Dyson V15 worth the hype or just expensive marketing?

I keep seeing these ads for the Dyson cordless vacuums and my house feels like we're constantly cleaning up goldfish crumbs and dirt the kids drag in. My wife swears by our old Shark but we've had it for like 5 years now. Has anyone actually owned a Dyson and used it for a normal family with kids? Or is it one of those things that looks cool but your regular vac works just fine? Looking for real opinions, not marketing bs.
