Just finished building a deck with my 9yo - actually proud of something for once

So this past weekend I decided to let my son help me build our new back patio deck. I was fully expecting him to get bored in like 20 minutes and disappear inside to play Minecraft, but nope. Kid stuck with me for 8 hours straight. He wasn't actually useful (definitely held the level upside down at one point lol) but he was there, asking questions, wanting to understand why we space the joists that way. We got maybe 60% done and plan to finish next month. His mom said 'oh he just wants your attention' like that's somehow a bad thing?? Anyway we grabbed cheeseburgers after and he told me this was the best day ever. That hit different.
