So my 11yo lied about homework being done when it wasn't. I found out from his teacher. We've already taken away screen time and made him redo it but now I'm not sure if I should do something else? Like is this just normal preteen stuff or should I be more concerned? He's generally a good kid so this felt out of character. How would you handle it?
Did he say why he lied? Like was it anxiety about the homework being hard or just thinking he could get away with it? Changes how I'd handle it.
11 is old enough to understand consequences. What did you end up doing? Natural consequence or grounded?
We had the same thing with our 11yo last year. Just made him email the teacher apologizing and redo the assignment. Way more effective than getting mad about it.
That age is tricky because they're testing boundaries but old enough to understand they messed up. I'd focus on why he thought lying was necessary instead of punishment.

The lying part is worse than the homework thing honestly. Our 10yo did the same and we spent a whole week talking about why lying always backfires.
