Seriously? For a pump? I looked at doing it myself but it seems like the kind of thing that could really go wrong if I mess it up. Anyone dealt with pool guys before? Are these quotes normal or am I getting ripped off?
Get a second opinion for sure. Two different companies quoted me totally different prices on pool stuff. Shop around before committing to anything.
I feel your pain. Our pool guy quoted me almost the same thing last year. Definitely get multiple quotes though. And ask about warranties on the pump itself.
DIY pool work is one of those things where saving 500 bucks isn't worth breaking your pool for the rest of the summer. I'd bite the bullet and hire it out unless you really know what you're doing.
Get three quotes. I've seen guys charge way different prices for the same job. One quote might be half the other.
Two grand is brutal but honestly pool pump replacement is one of those jobs where you really need to know what you're doing. One mistake and you're looking at way more damage.

2k sounds about right for a full replacement if the pump is actually dead. Before you pay it, get a second opinion from another pool guy. Sometimes it's just something smaller.
