Quick question: best lunch box for elementary age?

My son starts 1st grade next month and I need to get him a lunch box situation. He's pretty rough on stuff (last backpack lasted 3 months before a zipper broke). Looking for something durable, easy to clean, maybe insulated since we don't have lunch fridges at his school. Anyone have a specific brand they've had good luck with? Budget's not super tight but I also don't need to spend $80 on lunch containers.

Get something with a solid close and compartments so his sandwich doesn't get destroyed by the time lunch period rolls around. We learned this the hard way with a soft lunch bag that just crushed everything.

Skip the character lunch boxes. Get a basic Rubbermaid or simple solid color one. First graders are rough on stuff and they lose them or beat them up. No point spending $40 on something that'll be trashed in November.

If he's rough on stuff get a metal one. My son is a chaos agent with his stuff and the metal lunch box actually held up through three years. The plastic ones just crack and leak.

Honestly at this age they care way more about whats IN the lunch box than what it looks like. Get the tough one and let him pick out a cool bento box or stainless steel container for the food inside.

Consider getting two lunch boxes so you always have one at home being prepped while the other is in the school bag. Makes weeknight prep way less stressful. Switch them out each afternoon.
