Rant: why is it so hard to find good work boots?

I've gone through three pairs of work boots in the last year and they all fall apart around the 6 month mark. My dad wore the same pair of Red Wings for like 8 years. Are they just not making them tough anymore or am I buying garbage? Looking to drop some actual money on a good pair that'll last. Anyone have recommendations? I do construction so I need something that can actually handle it.
