My 8yo just asked me flat out where babies come from. I was NOT prepared. I gave him a very technical, very clinical explanation about sperm and eggs and he just stared at me. Then asked if we could go get ice cream instead. My wife says I handled it fine but I feel like I overcomplicated it? How did you all handle this conversation?
I feel like age 8 is actually perfect for this because they're curious but they're not yet at the age where they think it's gross. You got lucky with the timing honestly. Better now than when they're 13 and everyone at school is talking about it.
Technical is actually the way to go. I did the same thing, stuck to the facts, no weird analogies. Kids appreciate straight answers more than we think. He probably already forgot about it and moved on to something else by now.
The fact that you gave him a technical answer means you handled it way better than most dads would. There's no such thing as being unprepared for that conversation, you just roll with it.
This is one of those moments where overthinking it makes it worse. You answered him honestly at an age where he can understand it. Mission accomplished.

Oh man the technical approach. Did he just nod and accept it or did you get follow up questions? My 8yo asked me and I went full biology textbook and he just said 'ok cool' and went back to his tablet.
