That awkward moment when your kid asks about the birds and the bees

My 8yo just asked me flat out where babies come from. I was NOT prepared. I gave him a very technical, very clinical explanation about sperm and eggs and he just stared at me. Then asked if we could go get ice cream instead. My wife says I handled it fine but I feel like I overcomplicated it? How did you all handle this conversation?
