The $40 Lego Set My Kid Hasnt Touched

Bought my son the big pirate ship lego set from his wishlist. Its been sitting unopened for 3 weeks while he plays with a cardboard box. Why do we do this to ourselves? What's the most ridiculous toy your kids were obsessed with that cost nothing?
