Saw this app where you build creatures and it gamifies chores/homework. Looked kinda cool but it's like $5/month. Anyone actually use it? Does it work or is it just a gimmick to get kids away from TikTok for 30 minutes?
Someone in a similar thread said their kid used it for a month then demanded to go back to TikTok anyway. $5/month for a month of peace isn't terrible but don't expect lasting behavior change.
I looked into this. Honestly the core mechanic is fine but $5/month for a chore app when you could just... have expectations is hard to justify. Maybe worth a month trial if your kid's really into that creature-building thing, but don't expect it to magically fix motivation around homework. Most kids get bored with the novelty part in like 2 weeks.
The real question is whether your kid will stick with it past the honeymoon period. Most gamified chore apps end up being more annoying to track than just doing the chore yourself.
The real question: does it actually make them do chores or does it just gamify the asking? Because if your kid still needs constant reminders, a cute app won't fix that.
I looked at this app like a year ago. It's cute but honestly? Kids lose interest after 2 weeks when the novelty wears off. Better to just find an actual chore system that works - sticker chart, allowance, whatever.
I'd say try it if you have a Prime membership (sometimes free trial) but don't commit to paying yearly. Most "kids will do chores if we make it into a game" apps crash and burn after the novelty period.
We tried it. Lasted 3 weeks before my 8yo lost interest in the creature and therefore the app. The gamification is cute but it's still basically asking them to do stuff they don't want to do, just with a digital reward instead of a real one. YMMV though.
