Thinking about getting back into gaming - recommendations?

Haven't played anything serious since like 2008 before the kids happened. Now that my oldest is in school during the day and my youngest naps for like 2 hours, I'm thinking about picking it back up as a hobby. Don't want anything too time-intensive but also don't want some mobile garbage. Used to love strategy games and RPGs. What are people playing these days that doesn't require a college degree to learn the controls? Gaming PC worth it or should I just grab a Switch?

Start with something not too demanding. I picked up Hades because you can pause it and it's got great story but isn't a huge time commitment. Perfect for us with interruptions.

Real talk though, gaming time is tough to find as a dad. I tried getting back into it and realized I only had like 30 minutes most nights. Switched to shorter games I could actually finish.

If you've got a Switch that's your friend. Portability means you can actually play during downtime instead of being chained to the TV. Game changer for guys like us.

Elden Ring destroyed me because I wanted to sink 3 hour sessions into it but dad life doesn't allow that anymore. Go with something more forgiving of save state flexibility.

You're gonna be shocked at how much has changed in 16 years but also shocked at how quickly it comes back. Hand eye coordination takes a minute but muscle memory is real.
