My neighbor has this insane setup in his garage and keeps bugging me to make something with him. Like a birdhouse or small shelves or whatever. Seems cool but also seems expensive to get started. Anyone here do woodworking? Is it worth it or is it one of those things that looks fun until you realize you need 500 dollars in tools?
Do it! I was scared to start woodworking because I thought I needed all this expensive equipment, but honestly you don't. Start with your neighbor and see if you actually enjoy it before you buy anything. Could be a really cool hobby.
Your neighbor is probably hoping you say yes. Woodworking is such a solid hobby and honestly having someone to learn with makes it way better than going solo.
My hands are permanently covered in paint and sawdust from doing crafts with my daughter, but I absolutely love it. If your neighbor's got a setup and he's willing to teach you, that's perfect. You might discover a whole new thing you're passionate about.
Great way to get some time away and learn something useful. Plus if it turns into a real hobby, you've got your neighbor right there. Just make sure the time commitment works with your family schedule.

Do it. Worst case you make a weird shelf. Best case you've got a new thing to do that isn't screens and the kids think you're building things. I started last year and it's become my therapy.
The garage setup is the first hurdle but honestly if he's already set up you're halfway there. Start small though, don't bite off a dining table on your first project.
