Weekend plans falling apart

Had the whole weekend mapped out. Was gonna finally organize the garage, take the kids to the park, maybe catch up on yard work. Then my wife's mom called and needs help with some stuff at her house. Kids are fighting about whether they want to go or stay home. Looks like my Saturday is getting hijacked. How do you all balance family obligations with actually having time for your own stuff?
