Every. Single. Night. Bedtime is 10pm, and at 9:57 one of my boys (6 or 8, they rotate) suddenly needs water so badly that their throat is apparently closing up. If I say no he acts betrayed. If I say yes we're back in the cycle for another 10 minutes. This is my life now.
Try setting a cutoff time an hour before bed. After that, no more water requests allowed. We do 8pm cutoff and bedtime is 9pm. Helps reset the expectation.
I started keeping a water bottle by the bed now. Eliminates the excuse entirely. Game changer.
Or they genuinely do need it because they're dehydrated. My oldest was doing this and we realized she wasn't drinking enough water during the day.
Mine does this too and I swear it's psychological warfare. Like they have some internal countdown timer that goes off exactly 3 minutes before bedtime.
My pediatrician said to just give them water in a cup by the bed and let them know it's there. Cuts down on the delay tactics by like 80 percent.
