Why Is My 6 Year Old Obsessed With Minecraft?

Seriously this kid will sit for hours building random stuff in Minecraft while I'm trying to get him to do literally anything else. His teacher says he's doing fine in school so I'm not worried but the screen time is killing me. Tried to get him into other stuff like sports or Legos but nope, just wants the game. My wife thinks I'm overreacting. How many hours do your kids spend on games? Is this just normal now or should I be more concerned? Looking for real talk here not judgment.

Same boat here. My 6 year old will literally ignore me when I'm calling him for dinner because he's in the middle of building a house or whatever. The trick is making something else sound equally exciting to get him off. Usually works better than just yanking the tablet.

Six year olds building stuff is kind of their superpower at that age. He's creating entire worlds in his head. I'd say let him do it for a bit but yeah, you gotta pull him away eventually. We use a kitchen timer so my kids know exactly when it's ending.

Minecraft is actually not the worst thing honestly. My kid does the same thing and I realized he's learning spatial reasoning, problem solving, and patience without even knowing it. Still gotta set limits on screen time though. We do 45 minutes max on weekdays.

It's the creative outlet that grabs them. My oldest spent hours doing the same thing at that age. Eventually they age out and move on to something else. Just make sure he's also getting outside time and actual human interaction.
