My kid watches this show called My Hero Academia and won't shut up about it. He's drawing these characters constantly and asking me to buy him merch. Is this normal or am I raising a weeb? Not complaining just confused where this came from.
Haha yeah my son went through this phase too. Just ride it out, they move on to the next thing eventually. In the meantime at least he's engaged with something that requires actual thought unlike some of the other stuff out there.
My oldest got obsessed with anime too and honestly, I just leaned into it. Now we watch together and I actually get it. Let him draw, maybe grab him a figure for his room instead of the whole merch haul.
Seven year olds latch onto this stuff hard. My Hero Academia is actually pretty solid though, positive messages in there. Just set some boundaries on the spending and you're golden.
The drawing is actually a good sign though. My kids do the same thing with their interests and it's basically free entertainment plus they're creating something instead of just consuming. I'd lean into it rather than fight it.

My 9 year old got obsessed with anime last year and I was skeptical at first but honestly it got him drawing way more than before. Now he's asking about Japanese culture and we've been watching some stuff together. Could be worse than what I was into at that age.
