My boy's coach pulled me aside and said he noticed my son actually shakes hands and maintains eye contact when meeting people. Said most kids his age won't even do that. We've been drilling that since he was little because I learned it from my old man. It's a small thing but it teaches respect and confidence. Anyone else making sure your kids understand these basics?
Teaching this to mine right now. They're at that age where they want to look at their shoes during introductions but we're working on it. Your boy is already ahead of the curve if his coach is commenting on it.
This is so important and honestly kind of a lost art. My son's scout leader noticed the same thing about the kids who grew up actually doing this stuff. Respect and eye contact open doors.

The coach pulling you aside to say something positive is huge though. That's the stuff that sticks with kids. They know it matters because adults they respect are noticing.

The fact that your son is doing this says a lot about what you're modeling at home. Kids pick up on that stuff whether we think they're paying attention or not.
