Being a Man of Your Word in a Contract-Happy World
Got offered a job last month that would've paid more money but I already gave my word to my current company that I'd see a major project through. My wife thought I was crazy turning down the extra pay, but a man's word has to mean something. Three weeks later my boss remembered that loyalty and ended up matching the offer anyway and promoting me. Maybe I was lucky, maybe it was karma, but I know my kids saw that keeping your word matters. Not enough guys operate this way anymore.
As a coach, I see a lot of character get tested, and what you just did is textbook integrity. Your word being good is worth more than gold in the long run. Props to you.
