Being the provider - what does it really mean in 2024?

My wife makes more money than me right now and I'm struggling with feeling like I'm not fulfilling my duty as a husband. I know this is probably outdated thinking but I was raised with the understanding that a man takes care of his family. We have a great life and she's happy but something in me feels like I'm falling short. How do you guys balance traditional values with modern relationships? Looking for honest perspectives here not judgment.

With three kids here I've learned real quick that being the provider means different things on different days. Sometimes it's the money, sometimes it's the support at home. You're doing the work either way.

Being the provider isn't about who brings home the bigger paycheck. You're raising two kids and contributing to your household. That's being a provider. Money is just one piece of it.

This is worth exploring in therapy if you're doing that. The provider piece is more about taking care of your family emotionally and physically than just the dollar amount. You're already doing it.

I get it man, that traditional thing gets in your head. But real talk, my wife made more than me for a few years and it didn't change anything about how I felt about being a dad and a husband. The numbers don't define you.
