Calling out disrespect right away
My 12yo made a smart remark to his mom yesterday. Small thing, just sarcasm, but it was disrespectful. I pulled him aside and told him that we don't talk to his mother like that, period. Not because I'm mean but because she deserves respect and he needs to know that respecting women starts in his own home. Doesn't matter if he disagrees with her or thinks she's being unfair. We handle it with respect. Kid got defensive at first but I think it landed. These moments matter more than people realize.
Yeah, sarcasm at that age is tricky because sometimes it's just them testing boundaries. How did you handle it? I've found that a quick 'we don't talk to your mom like that' in the moment works better than letting it slide and bringing it up later.
