How to teach kids about respecting their mother

My father always showed tremendous respect for my mother in front of us. Not fake stuff, genuine admiration and courtesy. I've made it a point to do the same with my wife in front of the kids. Because if boys don't see their father treat their mother with honor and respect, why would they ever treat any woman that way? It's fundamental. Start there.

My wife and I really try to do this in front of the kids. We disagree sometimes but we handle it respectfully and the kids see that. It's probably more important than any direct lesson you could teach.

Your dad sounds like he had it figured out. My parents did the same thing and I realized early on that respect between adults is something kids actually notice and learn from. They don't need lectures about it, they just need to see it.

This is gold. Kids pick up on the dynamic between their parents more than we think. If they see genuine respect instead of that fake 'yes dear' stuff, they understand what a real partnership looks like.
