Keeping Your Word as a Dad

If I tell my kids I'll be at their game on Saturday, I'm going to be there even if I'm running on three hours of sleep from work. A man's word is his bond. That's what my grandfather always said. I've noticed my boys are more confident now because they know I mean what I say. We live in a world where people flake out constantly. Be different. Be the dad whose yes means yes and whose no means no. Your integrity is the greatest inheritance you can leave them.

This is it right here. I've missed sleep plenty of times to make sure I'm at soccer games and practices. Kids notice when you show up, that's what matters.

Exactly. Being a youth soccer coach with two competitive kids, I see the dads who are there and the ones who aren't. Your kids will remember you kept your word.

Amen to that. I've got four kids at different ages and schedules, and keeping my word is the one thing I won't compromise on no matter how tired I am.
