Lead by example, not by control
Been thinking a lot about what old-school leadership really means. I grew up with my dad laying down the law and that was just how it was. But I'm realizing the most powerful thing I can do is show my kids and my family what integrity looks like. How I handle a mistake. How I treat the waiter who messes up my order. How I speak about people when they're not around. My boys are watching everything. They'll follow my example way more than they'll follow my commands. That's both terrifying and motivating.
Old school control doesn't work anymore and honestly it shouldn't have to. If our kids see us being honest, working hard, treating people right, they naturally follow. That's true leadership.
