Leading by example, not just words

My kids watch everything I do. How I treat the waiter who messes up my order. How I handle the guy who cut me off in traffic. Whether I'm respectful to their mom even when I'm frustrated. You can tell a thousand times to be honest and kind but if you're not doing it, they'll just become liars and jerks like dad. Been really conscious about this lately. Not being perfect, just being real and showing them what integrity actually looks like.

Your kids are definitely watching. Mine called me out last week for cutting someone off in traffic when I'd been preaching about patience. Kids see the hypocrisies we don't even realize we're doing.

This is why the little stuff matters more than the big gestures. How you handle the difficult moments when nobody's watching except your kids, that's what shapes them.

The waiter example is perfect. I've noticed my oldest started being way more patient with his younger brother after watching me be patient with service people. Actions really do speak louder.
