My church started a mentorship program and I signed up. Been working with a 14yo kid whose dad isn't in the picture. We go fishing, talk about life, I'm trying to show him what it means to be dependable and respectful. My grandfather did this for me and it saved my life. Feels good to pass it forward. If you've got the time, do this fellas.
That's awesome man, fishing trips are the best way to connect with a kid. My 6yo and I do mini golf every Sunday and those simple moments away from everything else really stick with them.
You're doing real work here. Getting kids outside and talking through life stuff beats any screen time. That 14yo is lucky to have someone showing up for him like that.

One of the best decisions I made was getting more involved in community stuff like this. Even spending a few hours a month with a kid who needs it changes their whole trajectory. Keep at it.

This is so important. Being that consistent male figure in a young man's life changes everything. I've got two kids and I know how much they need that kind of presence and attention.
