Growing up my old man was strict about stuff that seemed pointless. Posture at the dinner table. How to dress for different occasions. Always being on time, actually early. Now that I'm managing a team at work I realize he was teaching me how to command respect without saying a word. The guys naturally look to me because I carry myself with some dignity. Wish I'd listened better back then but better late than never.

Same with my old man. He'd correct me on handshakes, eye contact, stuff like that. At the time I rolled my eyes but now I get it. It's about respect and carrying yourself right. What else from him finally clicked for you?
This is real talk. My dad was strict about showing up on time and keeping your word on small things. Seemed harsh then but now I see he was teaching me integrity in the everyday stuff.
