My father's ring and what it means to pass things down
My old man passed two years ago. Last week I put his college ring on my right hand. It's a 1968 class ring, solid gold, initials on the inside. He was a man of few words but he led by example. He showed up. He took care of his family. He treated everyone from the CEO to the janitor with the same respect. I'm wearing this ring now to remind myself every day what it means to be a man in this family. When my son turns 18 I'll explain to him what it means and why it matters.
Beautiful post. My kids don't fully get it yet but I'm already thinking about what of mine they'll want to keep. These heirlooms are the stories we pass down without having to say a word.
