My father taught me something I'm finally understanding

Dad used to say that being a man means showing up, doing the work nobody else wants to do, and not complaining about it. I'm in my 40s now and married with kids and I finally get it. The unglamorous stuff like fixing the leaky faucet at 11pm, staying late at work without asking for credit, listening to my wife even when I'm tired. That's what it means. My old man lived that way his whole life and I'm trying to do the same.

That hits different when you get older and realize your dad was teaching you about character the whole time. The fact that you want to pass that same message along to your kids means you got it right.
