Raising boys to be men of their word
Been thinking a lot about this as my oldest gets older. Seems like everything now is negotiable and people just say whatever gets them out of trouble. I'm trying to teach my boys that your word is everything. You make a commitment you see it through, even when it's hard or inconvenient. Even to your kids. If you tell them you'll be at their game you show up. If you say you'll do something you do it. That's what separates men from boys.
This hits different when you've got kids old enough to understand consequences. My oldest is 14 now and I realized early on that if I didn't keep my word about small stuff, he wouldn't believe me on the big stuff.
