Had to correct my oldest yesterday when he was being dismissive toward his sister. Pulled him aside and reminded him that respect starts at home. Women deserve the same courtesy and consideration we give to everyone else. My boys will open doors, say please and thank you, and listen when women are speaking. This is as much a part of a man's character as anything else. Anyone else dealing with this?
That's solid parenting right there. I had to have the same conversation with one of my twins, and it stuck way better when I explained it as respect being a two-way street, not just something girls need to earn.
Good catch pulling him aside instead of embarrassing him in front of everyone. That's how they actually listen and learn instead of just getting defensive.
That's the hard part of parenting. Calling your kid out when they mess up but doing it in a way that teaches instead of shames. How did he respond when you pulled him aside?

This. My oldest is at that age where attitude toward his sister is rough some days. It's not malicious but there's definitely work to do there. Glad you're catching it now rather than later.

Teaching respect early pays dividends later. I make a point to call out any dismissive behavior toward my wife too because kids notice how you treat the women in your life. They're always watching.
