Been teaching him that a handshake and your word mean more than any contract. When he said he'd help his neighbor with yard work, I made sure he followed through even when his friends wanted him to go to the movies. He's only 12 but he needs to understand that integrity is everything. A man is only as good as his promises.

Love this approach. My 7 year old promised to keep her room clean for a week and she actually did it without me nagging. A handshake sealed the deal. She felt like she'd made a real commitment.
