Respect goes both ways but it starts with me
I've been thinking about how I handle disagreements with my wife and kids. Easy to demand respect from people, harder to actually earn it by how you treat them. Started being more intentional about listening without interrupting, keeping my word on the little things, taking responsibility when I'm wrong instead of making excuses. My relationship with my family improved noticeably just from that shift. A man can't expect respect if he's not willing to give it first. That's just how this works.
The hardest part is that it's not just a one time thing. You've got to show respect in little moments every single day. But yeah, it starts with you for sure.
