Made a deal with my neighbor on a property line issue. No lawyers, no paperwork, just our word and a handshake. His dad did the same thing with my dad 30 years ago. That's how you operate as a gentleman. You don't need contracts and courts if both men have honor. Seems like this is a dying concept though.
That's the way to do it. My dad did the same kind of deals and there's something about keeping your word that your kids actually see and remember. Good on you for keeping that tradition alive.
Love to see it. My old man always said a man's word is his bond. Still believe that. Just curious though, are you guys putting anything in writing at all or is it purely verbal? Not trying to be a lawyer, just wondering how you're protecting yourself.
I respect that approach. Did a similar thing with my fence situation a few years back. The handshake agreement actually stuck better than I expected. Just make sure you're both crystal clear on what was agreed to before you shake hands though, saves headaches later.
This is how things should work honestly. No middle men taking a cut. As long as you both document it somehow, even just a photo of a written note you both sign, you're good. My neighbor and I did this and we're still on good terms five years later.
