Should I let my daughter pay for dinner?

My 16-year-old asked to take me to lunch for Father's Day with her own money she earned working. Part of me wants to say no and pay like I always have. But another part thinks she's trying to show respect and step up. My wife says I'm overthinking it. What would you old timers do? Still feel like the man should handle it but don't want to dismiss her effort.

This is a great teaching moment about letting her step into a more adult role. I'd say yes and just enjoy the experience with her. She's earned it and clearly wants to show you something.

Let her take you to lunch, man. She earned that money and wants to do something meaningful for you. That's the whole point of teaching them independence. You'll remember that gesture way more than who paid the bill.

Let her take you to lunch. Enjoy it and say thank you, and then let her know how much it means that she went to the effort.
