Should I let my daughter pay for her own meal on a date?
My girl is 16 and going out with a boy. I told her I'd give her money just in case, but she should expect the boy to pay since he asked her out. My wife thinks that's old fashioned and that girls should split bills. I get times have changed but there's something about teaching young men that you step up and take care of your date. That's what my dad taught me and it worked fine. Am I stuck in the past or is this still the right move?
I think that's the right call. 16 is old enough to understand that having her own money shows respect from the guy. If he's worth dating he'll respect that she can handle herself.
She's lucky to have a dad who's thinking this through. Just make sure the money is truly backup and she knows it's okay to use it if things go weird.
