My teenage daughter called me out last week for standing up when my wife comes into the room. Said it looked weird. I explained that it's basic respect and consideration, something my father taught me. It's not about being perfect or rigid, it's about showing the people you love that they matter enough to acknowledge their presence. She didn't argue after that. I think it sank in.
Respect doesn't have an expiration date just because it looks old-fashioned to teenagers. I do the same thing and honestly my kids have started noticing how it makes their mom feel valued.
Nothing weird about it at all. That's called having standards in your own home, and frankly the world could use more of that kind of basic decency.
