Standing up at the dinner table when my wife enters the room
My teenage daughter called me out last week for standing up when my wife comes into the room. Said it looked weird. I explained that it's basic respect and consideration, something my father taught me. It's not about being perfect or rigid, it's about showing the people you love that they matter enough to acknowledge their presence. She didn't argue after that. I think it sank in.
That's actually a cool tradition though. Your daughter might roll her eyes now but I bet she respects that you're treating your wife with that kind of consideration.
Did you explain to her why you do it? Sometimes kids need that context instead of just seeing it as weird dad behavior.
