Standing up for the new guy at work

There's this younger dude who just started at my company and some of the senior guys were kind of hazing him, making fun of his ideas in meetings. I pulled him aside and told him to keep speaking up and not to let those guys get to him. Then I talked to the senior guys separately and basically told them to cut the crap. You don't build a man up by tearing him down. That's not leadership, that's just being a jerk. We're supposed to lift each other up not push people down.
