Standing up for what's right at work cost me a friendship

Been working with a buddy for five years and we were close. Recently found out he was treating one of the younger guys on the team like garbage behind closed doors. Called him out on it privately and he didn't take it well. Now things are awkward but I can't pretend I didn't see it. Honor means doing the right thing even when it costs you something. Hoping he eventually gets it.

That's tough, but you did the right thing calling him out. Being a good friend doesn't mean letting someone treat others like garbage, and I think deep down he'll respect that you had the guts to say something.

I've been there and it sucks losing a work buddy, but I'd rather lose a friendship than teach my kids that staying quiet is easier than standing up for people. Sounds like you made the call you can live with.
