Standing up for what's right cost me a friendship

My buddy of 20 years made a comment about another man's wife at a gathering. Real disrespectful stuff. I called him out on it immediately and told him that wasn't how we speak about women. Things got awkward, he got defensive, said I was being preachy. Haven't heard from him much since. Part of me feels bad but another part knows I did the right thing. My kids were there. Can't teach them one thing at home and let them see something different in the world. Anyone else had to draw a hard line like this?
