Had a situation at work where the easy thing and the right thing were different. Everyone was going one direction and I went another. Took a hit for it but I sleep good at night knowing I did the right thing. My dad taught me that honor means more than convenience. Teaching the same to my kids.
That takes real character, especially when everyone else is going the other way. Taking a hit for doing right is what it's about.
Working long hours makes it even harder to stand up when it costs you something. That's setting the example for your kids right there.
This hits different when you're the one who has to go home and live with the consequences. Respect for standing firm on what's right even when it's not popular. That takes real strength.
How did it shake out? Did people eventually come around or is it still awkward?
Been there. Did the right thing and it cost me at the time, but my kids saw me do it. That matters more than I realized at the moment. Worth it.
