Standing up for whats right even when its hard

Had a situation at work where some of the guys were talking badly about one of the newer employees behind his back. I shut it down and told them that's not how we handle business here. Couple of them got defensive but I didn't care. You either have integrity or you don't. Can't claim to be a man of principle and then look the other way. My kids are watching how I operate in the world and I want them to know their dad doesn't compromise on character.

Standing up for the new guy when it would be easier to just go along is exactly the kind of man you want your kids to become. That's teaching by doing.

This is the stuff that matters. Your kids will remember how you handled the hard situations way more than the easy ones. Standing up for what's right teaches them more than any lecture could.

Takes real courage to do this especially in a work environment where you're trying to fit in. But your kids will hear about this eventually and it matters.
