Standing up when a lady enters the room - is this still a thing?

My kids thought it was hilarious when I stood up when my wife came back to the dinner table the other night. When did basic courtesy become weird? My dad always stood for my mom and I learned it was just what you do. It takes zero effort and shows respect. I'm teaching my son to do the same. Some traditions exist for a reason. They're not outdated, they're just forgotten.

That's awesome dude. We need more of that, not less. My kids will learn courtesy from seeing it happen, not from me lecturing them about it.
