Teaching Honor Through Sports

Got my kids involved in youth baseball this spring. Been using it as a chance to teach them about losing with grace, winning without gloating, and respecting the other team. After the games we shake hands and mean it. My 10 year old was upset after a loss last week but I reminded him that how you respond to defeat defines your character more than victory ever will. These lessons stick with them way longer than whether they won or lost that day.

Baseball is perfect for this because there's so much failure built in. A kid's hitting .300 in the majors that's amazing. So when your son strikes out he learns it's normal and you move on. Good call getting them into it.
Love this approach. How are they handling the actual losses? That's where the real character building happens I think.
