Teaching my son about being a man of his word
My boy is 14 and he's starting to make commitments he doesn't keep. Told his friend he'd help him with college apps, said he'd work on the truck with me on Saturday, promised his mom he'd do his chores. Then he just blows it off like it's no big deal. I grew up with the understanding that your word is your bond and you honor your commitments no matter what. How do I teach him this without coming across as old school or out of touch? I want him to understand that integrity matters.
Been there with my kids. Sometimes I have them write down their commitments for the week so they can actually see what they promised. Sounds simple but it helps them realize how much they're taking on.
