Teaching My Son the Handshake and Eye Contact

Been working with my 8 year old on a proper firm handshake and looking people in the eye when you meet them. His mother thinks I'm being old fashioned but I believe these things matter. A man is judged by how he carries himself and treats others. Started taking him to church events and community gatherings where he can practice. Already seeing improvement in his confidence. Anyone else prioritize these fundamentals with their kids?

I'm doing the handshake thing with my 8 year old right now too. It's funny because kids that age actually care about doing it right once they understand it matters. Eye contact is the tricky part though, still working on that.

These little things matter way more than people think. A firm handshake and looking someone in the eye - that's the foundation for confidence. Your son is going to benefit from this his whole life.

My dad did this with me and I still think about it. It sounds simple but it actually shapes how kids interact with the world. Good on you for teaching it intentionally.
