Teaching my son to be a man of his word
My father taught me that your word is your bond and it's a lesson I'm working hard to pass down. My 8 year old promised his sister he'd help her with homework and then wanted to play video games instead. I made him honor that commitment even though he was upset. Later I explained that being a man means doing what you say you're going to do, even when it's inconvenient. That's the foundation of integrity. Too many kids today don't understand that anymore.
Keeping promises to your kids might be the single most important thing you do as a parent. They remember every single time you follow through or don't. Your son's lucky to have that example.
