Teaching my son to be a man of his word

Been working on this with my 12 year old. If he says he's going to do something, he does it. No excuses, no backing out. Told him a man's word is his bond and that's something people will respect him for his whole life. Started small, just keeping promises about chores and homework. Seems to be sticking so far. Anyone else emphasize this with their kids?
