My boy made a commitment to his baseball team for the season and now wants to quit because practice got hard. We had a real conversation about what it means to honor your commitments and see things through even when they're tough. These are the moments that matter. Character is built in the small decisions. Proud of him for sticking with it after we talked.

My son tried the same thing with soccer and I told him the same thing your teaching yours. A commitment is a commitment. His teammates are counting on him, not just the coach.

How old is your boy? Just curious because the approach might be different if he's 8 versus 14. Either way though, following through on commitments is foundational.

This is the real test right here. It's easy to teach your kid to keep his word when it's convenient. Sounds like you're doing the hard part by not letting him off the hook just because he changed his mind.
