Teaching my son to be a real man

Been making sure he knows to open doors for people, say yes sir and no sir, shake hands firm but not crushing. Want him to understand that being a man means taking care of the people around you and showing respect. My old man taught me this way and I'm doing the same with my boy. Anyone else taking this approach?

How old is your son? I think the way you frame these things matters depending on their age. With my oldest I'm focusing on respect and with the younger one it's still just basic manners.

These are solid foundations. Teaching him respect and proper etiquette early makes all the difference. The firm handshake thing is something my dad taught me and I'm doing the same with mine.

Good on you for being intentional about this. Old school values like respect and courtesy aren't out of style, they're actually more needed than ever.
