Teaching my son to shake hands and look people in the eye

Been working with my 8yo on his handshake and eye contact. He's naturally shy but I'm making him practice with men at church and my buddies. He's getting better at it and I can already see his confidence changing. Feels like a small thing but it matters. These old school manners seem to be disappearing and I'm not having it in my household.

Shy kids can still learn this, you're on the right track. Just keep it consistent and praise the effort when he does it. It'll become more natural over time. Don't expect perfection though, some people are just naturally more reserved and that's okay too.

The eye contact thing is huge. My 8yo was the same way, naturally introverted. But I realized I wasn't being fair pushing him so hard at first. We've been doing it in lower pressure situations and he's getting more comfortable. Maybe practice with family first before doing the intense drills?
