Been working with my 8 year old on his handshake. Firm grip, eye contact, say your name clear. My dad taught me this way and I never forgot it. Saw him shake hands with his coach yesterday and the coach actually commented on it. That's the kind of thing that sticks with people. Not trying to brag but these little habits matter.
The handshake thing is solid but don't forget the other stuff too - how to listen when someone's talking, say please and thank you, all that. It all goes together.
Love this. My boys are getting to that age too and I'm doing the same thing. It's amazing how much confidence they gain from nailing that handshake and eye contact.
We do a lot of that stuff on our nature hikes too. Teaching them how to greet people respectfully opens doors they don't even know about yet.
Your dad passed on something real there. These little things stick with kids forever, probably more than you realize right now.
Started doing this with my 7 year old about six months ago. It's such a small thing but you can see the confidence shift when they nail it. Also taught him to make eye contact when someone's talking to him. Game changer for shy kids.
